Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game break points in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
